Director Reports

Jr. Week (Heath Chatman, Director)

Theme:

This year’s camp theme, “God Loves Us as Our Comforter,” was a powerful reminder of how God meets us in our moments of distress, courage, service, and how He calls us to comfort others. Each day built intentionally on the previous one, creating a spiritually enriching experience for both campers and staff.

Daily Focus Breakdown

Monday – God Comforts in Distress

Classes:

Elijah and the Ravens (1 Kings 17)

Elisha and the Enemy Army (2 Kings 6)

Sermon: John 14:15–31 — The Comforter

Devotional: Galatians 5 — Fruit of the Spirit

Campers reflected deeply on how God provides and protects even in the darkest times. The Holy Spirit as our Comforter was well received.

Tuesday – God Comforts When We Are Courageous

Classes:

The Fiery Furnace (Daniel 3)

Daniel in the Lions’ Den (Daniel 6)

Sermon: Esther 4–5 — Esther’s Boldness

Devotional: Luke 12:8–12 — The Spirit Gives Us Words

This day stirred bold conversations among youth about standing for faith, especially in today’s culture.

Wednesday – God Comforts When We Serve

Classes:

Paul’s Conversion (Acts 9)

Shipwrecks and Miracles (Acts 27–28)

Sermon: Paul and Silas in Prison (Acts 16)

Devotional: Philippians 4:10–13

Campers were encouraged to view challenges as opportunities for service.

Thursday – God Calls Us to Comfort Others

Classes:

Rahab and the Spies (Joshua 2)

Jesus Heals & Raises (Mark 5)

Sermon: The Good Samaritan (Luke 10)

Devotional: 2 Corinthians 1:3–7 — The God of All Comfort

During our devotional, the group was encouraged to share how they have been comforted and inspired. They also discussed ways they could comfort others.

Attendance:

•        Campers: 35

•        Workers (kitchen, cleaning, maintenance, etc.): 16

•        Staff (teachers, counselors, support personnel): 43

•        Little Ones (staff children): 9

•        Total on-site: 103

Highlights & Notes:

•        Gaga Ball Pit: The biggest hit of the week! Campers and staff of all ages spent countless hours here, laughing, bonding, and letting out energy.

•        Camp Unity: The fellowship among campers, staff, and workers was remarkable. It felt like one big family from day one.

•        Spiritual Growth:  Although we had no baptisms, we know the children were exposed to the word of God and many seeds were planted.

•        Health & Safety: We had no major injuries this week. The director experienced self-induced rhabdomyolysis from overexertion (dehydration and intense physical activity). The situation was handled swiftly and professionally with medical guidance, and the director recovered well.

Closing Thoughts

This year’s theme was more than just a lesson plan — it became a lived experience. Campers learned not only how God comforts us but how we are called to extend that comfort to others. The staff did an exceptional job facilitating lessons, keeping a spiritual focus, and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment for all.

Jr. Hi Week (Jacob Roberts, Director)

Theme:

Who Do You Say I Am?

Campers were tasked with considering Jesus’ question in Matthew 16:15, as every human being must answer. Each day of camp, campers were exposed to different attributes of the Lord’s character and being:

•        Monday – Jesus the Person: Focused on the Incarnation, Hypostatic Union, and Jesus’ humanity

•        Tuesday – Jesus the Provider/Physician: Focused on God’s provision and Jesus as healer

•        Wednesday – Jesus the Prince: Focused on Jesus’ Kingship and royalty

•        Thursday – Jesus the Priest: Focused on Jesus’ sacrifice and intercessory ministry on our behalf

Attendance:

•        Campers: 15

•        Staff:        23

•        Total:       38

Financial Report

•        Total Income (Including Petty Cash): $7,225.65

•        Total Expenditures: $4,538.27

•        Returned to Camp: $2,337.01

Highlights & Notes:

•        We had one (technical) injury; a camper – Bella - who sprained an ankle. CYE Nursing staff concluding there was no serious injury incurred.

•        There was an anonymous survey designed to provide feedback to director and staff, this was especially insightful.

•        Teen workers, though they paid to be there, outperformed any and all expectations.

•        There was one baptism, a 14-year-old girl from an unchurched home, aided greatly by the ministry of the aforementioned teen staff.

•        The undeniable presence of the Holy Spirit, and His work in the lives of all in attendance (along with forces fighting and resisting Him).

For Future Consideration

•        Staff meetings and preparation needs to be improved upon, such as clear delineation of responsibilities and training.

•        Change in schedule was well-received, need to reconsider scheduling (especially chapel, class, and swim times).

Sr Week (Terrell Guillory, Director)

Theme:

The Marriage Relationship

Key Scripture: Ephesians 5:22-30

Our Week explored the concept of marriage not just as a human institution, but as a reflection of our relationship with Christ. Morning sessions featured a Q&A panel led by our teaching team, Mike Abbott, and Elder Ray Landerneau. Campers anonymously submitted thoughtful, challenging questions, prompting deeply impactful discussions. Every question was honored and addressed.

Daytime classes were structured around the stages of marriage:

- Dating

- Newly Married

- Married with Children

- Empty Nesters

Campers rotated daily between these topics in small group settings for maximum engagement and personal growth. In the evening chapel services, Mike Abbott offered heartfelt messages drawing parallels between Christian faith and marriage, cultivating both spiritual depth and personal reflection.
